Joel has practiced law for over forty years. His areas of concentration include estate planning, probate, real
estate, bankruptcy, domestic / divorce law, personal injury, medical malpractice and business law.
Joel serves as the President of the Berkshire Center for Families and Children. He has been a Ward 4 Councilor
for the City of Pittsfield, a Massachusetts State Representative from Pittsfield and Lenox for three terms, and
Assistant Attorney General for the Commonwealth in the Consumer Protection Division, having co-authored and
sponsored the Massachusetts Consumer Protection Act, Chapter 93A. Joel is past Vice President of the
Massachusetts Bar Association and Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education, Inc. He served, by appointment of
the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court, as Chairman of the Client Security Fund. Joelís community involvement
also includes past service as President of the Jewish Federation of the Berkshires and Temple Anshe Amunim.
Following his graduation from Harvard Law School, Joel was admitted to practice in the State of New York. He
worked for the Department of the Navy, General Counselís Office and the Federal Trade Commission between 1954 to
1958. He moved to Pittsfield and was admitted to practice law in Massachusetts in 1958.
